Homes for sale on Lake Travis rank right behind Lake Austin in terms of desirability in Austin.  Like Lake Austin, prices are accordingly high but have a lower starting point than homes on Lake Austin.  This is due to two factors, 1) the sheer size of Lake Travis at 65 miles long (without a bridge) and 2) with no bridge or ferry it can easily take an hour or more to get from a home on the “north shore” to downtown Austin.

Lake Travis is NOT a constant level lake and has a 100′ vertical difference between the historical high and historical low level.  Docks are designed to float up and down as the lake fluctuates.   If true waterfront property is important, make sure you buy on the main body or on a deepwater cove on you will find yourself high and dry when the lake falls in the summer.
