Sabine on 5th
The Sabine on 5th has had some challenges and seems to be heading in the right direction. In February 2010, the developer auctioned off 29 units to a very receptive group of bidders seeking a bargain condo in downtown Austin. The units sold for approximately 30% off the original asking price. Prices ranged from the mid 160k range to 365k for a 2/2.
The Sabine is a condo conversion project that once housed an office building. It sits adjacent to Waller Creek, just east of I 35 on the blocks between 5th and 6th Street. It is also connected to the Hilton Garden Inn (formerly the Sheraton Hotel) and definitely not to be confused with the downtown Austin Hilton. The project is 10 stories and contains 80 units with a mix of one and two bedrooms. They range in size from 700 SF to 1461 SF. Most units do not have balconies, only those with a unit number ending in 1. Keep this in mind if a balcony is important to you!
The city of Austin is working on a major tunnel and revitalization project for the Waller Creek area. If everything goes as planned, The Sabine could be sitting right on top of a new Riverwalk type area in Austin. Keep your fingers crossed!
